The interior check is one of those steps that's easy to skip when your focus is on the walk-around – but it matters.
During the pre-flight for an aerobatic flight, one of our members once found a large pair of scissors tucked under the pilot's seat. It was exactly the kind of overlooked item that could have had serious consequences in the air – a sharp reminder (pun intended) of why thorough interior checks are so important.
A pre-flight inspection covers three areas: documents, exterior and interior. Taking a few extra minutes to secure everything inside the cockpit – including pens, checklists, tools and personal items – can prevent serious distractions or hazards in flight.
