At times there is significant bird activity on the operational areas of the aerodrome at Paraparaumu. Birds, even small ones, can pose a significant safety risk to general aviation aircraft.
AFIS staff are quite proactive about warning pilots of birds on the runway. If you spot birds in the operational areas, or are told about them, contact AFIS on frequency and let them know where they are.
Be patient and wait for the airport vehicle to complete its bird scare. If necessary, taxi to a suitable place and shut down for a few minutes while the birds are removed.
